We speak constantly, yet understanding remains elusive. Perhaps the real problem is not that we speak too much or too little. It is that we are becoming less and less available to listen.

Spoken and written language remain essential, but they necessarily rely on interpretation. Between what one person means, what another hears and what they understand, the message shifts, fragments, changes and gets lost.

We do not simply lack words. We lack relation.

KaboomFarm was born from this fracture.

It is built on a simple conviction: sound can restore a quality of presence, attention and relation that other forms of language can no longer always preserve.

Sound is vibration. It moves through the body, activates memory, affects perception, alters our inner space and awakens the imagination.

Sound is both mathematical and human matter.

It is frequency, duration, intensity, interval, repetition, silence, movement.

But it is also emotion, memory, territory, presence and transmission. It is both constructed and alive. Measurable and elusive. Precise and profoundly human. Sound is code.

We learn a language in order to understand it. But we receive sound before we even know how to name it. It therefore opens up a more immediate form of communication, less dependent on categories, definitions and affiliations.

A communication from mind to mind, body to body, presence to presence.

To listen is to enter into relation.

With ourselves.

With others.

With a place.

With a memory.

With the living world.

A sound work does not merely tell the story of the person who created it. It allows the listener to rediscover their own.

“Will people love me for what I do?”

“What will what I create make possible in the person who encounters it?”

“How will this creation accompany the living world?”

At KaboomFarm, we stand for creation that is useful.

Not utilitarian.

This way of thinking began to take shape in childhood.
